PM Lee visited France over the weekend, and met President Macron for the first time officially. During the three-day visit, PM Lee also attended the French National Day parade as a guest-of-honour, and also concluded agreements on areas like innovation and energy. What was the highlight of the trip, however, was a new France-Singapore digital roadmap, which saw the two countries agree to work together on cyber-security, artificial intelligence, and to “defend the international closeness of cyberspace”. Under this roadmap, both sides agree to step up existing efforts, which were already covered by an memorandum of understanding signed in 2015. All in all, the trip allowed for the two leaders to have fruitful discussions on “nurturing innovation, responding to technological disruption, developing smart cities, and the importance of quality education and social harmony”.
