Taiwan has lodged a complaint against Scoot and Singapore Airlines (SIA) for having decided to comply with China’s requests to list Taiwan as part of Chinese territory With China throwing its weight around, Taiwan’s destination will be listed as “Taiwan, China” on all Scoot and SIA flights. Some other airlines have already made the switch, including Air Canada, Air France and British Airways.
So far seems only the USA has been flippant towards China’s demands, brushing it off as “Orwellian nonsense“. Last week, the Financial Times had reported that US carriers, United, American and Delta Airlines, have been explicitly told not to make any changes. Japan’s Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways also stand firm, despite not having very close ties with Taipei.
