On 25 Oct, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced its indictment against a Singaporean trader for allegedly helping North Korean entities evade U.S. sanctions.

Tan Wee Beng, the director of Wee Tiong (S) Pte Ltd and managing director of WT Marine Pte Ltd, was labelled as “a fugitive from American justice” by the DOJ. Tan has thus far denied all accusations, claiming that he is “shocked” to learn about the news.

The DOJ added that Tan had been charged of conspiring with North Korean entities in violating U.S. sanctions through illicit transactions, bank fraud and money laundering.

Tan also disputed claims by the FBI that he was “at large”. As at press time, there were no further updates from the Singapore Police Force or the FBI.
