Malala has recently returned from a four day trip to Pakistan. This is the first time she has returned since being shot in the head by two Taliban militants on 9 October 2012 and airlifted to the UK for medical treatment. The trip was an emotional one for her and is a step to fulfilling her dream of eventually returning to Pakistan permanently.

However, while many view her as a hero, the hardline Islamist establishment views condemn her for being a puppet of the west. Whatever the case, her return shows the world how much Pakistan’s security has improved since 2012, with some saying that is an opportunity for the government to demonstrate their control.
