In the aftermath of the incident which claimed the life of full-time national serviceman (NSF) Corporal First Class Liu Kai, two images have since been leaked surrounding the circumstances of the accident. In response, the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) has filed a police report against the 5 NSFs responsible for the leaks. The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) has also since launched their own investigations. An official statement by MINDEF states “All personnel… are subject to the restrictions placed on unauthorised photography or videography… to ensure that these strict rules to guard our security are not compromised.” However, the images have since stirred controversy in what is seen as a lack of transparency surrounding the details of the incident. Also, some regard SCDF’s and MINDEF’s decision to take legal action against the NSFs to be unwarranted. Nonetheless, the SAF has resumed training activities after an organisation-wide safety timeout to review safety practices was lifted on Nov 7.
