Specific components used in both Sembcorp Cogen’s and Senoko Energy’s power-generating units were the source of Tuesday’s (Sept 18) massive blackout, investigations have found. Preliminary investigations by the Energy Market Authority are currently investigating the cause behind the failure of the units. Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Trade and Industry, speaking at the launch of the nationwide open electricity market, assured citizens that additional tests are being conducted on power-generating units with the affected components, and that review of backup procedures are being conducted as well.. The checks come on the back of a 38 minute blackout in 146,797 premises in 19 areas of Singapore – the country’s worst since 2004.
