SINGING K IS ALL FUN AND GAMES UNTIL IT’S USED AS A BRIBE

That’s what happened to Mr Victor Wong Chee Meng, former general manager of the Ang Mo Kio Town Council (AMKTC), who was charged with 55 counts of corruption. As the highest-ranking executive in the town council, he accepted bribes from Mr Chia Sin Lan, director of 19-ANC Enterprise and 19-NS2 Enterprise. The bribes totalled to $107,000, including: $30,000 wired to Wong’s mistress in China, $1,070 spent on Wong’s Geylang “Spa Treatment”, $49,377 spent at KTV lounges (how do you spend so much on singing?!?) and others. Mr Chia’s general building, repair and reformation companies were each charged with one count of conspiring to corruptly give Wong gratification to advance their business interests.  Both Wong and Chia have been released on bail, and are awaiting their trial on April 11 where they could be sentenced to 7 years in prison and/or fined up to $100,000.
