Last Tuesday, a “suspicious package” was received by The Straits Times at its News Centre in Toa Payoh. Inside was a letter addressed to “The Straights Times” containing several pages of incoherent text which was sent from an overseas source.
Three employees reported feeling “dizzy” and “teary” upon coming into contact with the letter, which emanated a “pungent, burning smell”. They were all assessed by a SCDF paramedic and found to be well. The office and nearby areas were also decontaminated as a precautionary measure by the SCDF.
The police are working with SCDF to investigate the source of the package, and have classified the case as “intentionally causing alarm”.
