The ministerial committee reviewing Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s wishes for 38 Oxley Road has made their decision and given three options. Firstly, that the house is preserved as a historical national monument. Secondly, that only the dining room in the basement is preserved and the rest of the house demolished. And lastly, that the house is demolished fully for redevelopment.
The committee came to the conclusion that Mr Lee Kuan Yew preferred that the house be demolished but was willing to accept alternatives that still protected the family’s privacy. However, the Lee siblings are still divided, with Lee Hsien Yang and Lee Wei Ling believing that their father’s last wish was clear with wanting 38 Oxley Road to be demolished.
Although, as Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s will also calls for demolition to occur only if Ms Lee moves out, there is nothing much to be done for now.
